Frequently asked questions
The questions business owners ask us most often, answered without hedging.
Do I need an accountant, or can I file myself?
Legally you can file yourself. In practice, the questions that cost money are not on the form: how a transaction is classified, what documentation supports it, and whether a deduction survives examination. If your company has employees, VAT or dividends, an adviser usually pays for itself.
Can you take over from my current accountant mid-year?
Yes. We review the current bookkeeping, list what needs correcting, and manage the handover ourselves. Most transfers complete within two to three weeks, including Altinn authorisations and system access.
Do you work in English?
All advisers work in English and Norwegian. Filings to Skatteetaten are submitted in Norwegian as required, while your memos, reports and meetings can be in English.
What is the difference between AS and ENK for tax?
An aksjeselskap is taxed as a separate entity and profit distributions to owners are taxed again as dividends. A sole proprietorship is taxed directly on the owner, with different rules for social security contributions and loss relief. Which is better depends on profit level, risk and whether you plan to sell.
How is salary versus dividend decided?
It depends on your profit, pension goals, sick-pay and social security needs, and the shielding deduction available on your shares. We model both routes with your actual figures rather than applying a rule of thumb.
What happens if I missed a deadline or filed something wrong?
Correct it before Skatteetaten finds it. Voluntary correction usually reduces or removes penalty tax. We prepare the correction and the explanation together, and handle the correspondence.
Skatteetaten has opened a control. What now?
Do not answer piecemeal. Send us the letter, and we will map what they are actually asking, assemble the documentation, and reply once, completely. We represent you through the process and appeal if the outcome is wrong.
Can you handle foreign employees working in Norway?
Yes: D-number applications, tax cards, the PAYE scheme where it applies, A-melding reporting and treaty questions about which country taxes the income.
I own shares, crypto or property abroad. Does that need reporting?
Almost certainly yes. Norwegian residents are taxed on worldwide income and wealth, and foreign holdings must be reported even when no tax ends up payable in Norway. We handle the reporting and any credit claim.
Do you publish prices?
No. Two companies of the same size can differ by a factor of three in work required. You get a written fee proposal after the first consultation, and we do not invoice work you have not approved.
How quickly do you respond?
Within one working day for ordinary questions. During a control or a transaction deadline we agree a faster response time in advance.
Where are you located?
Our office is at Lars Hilles gate 30 in central Bergen. Most clients are in Bergen and the wider Vestland region, but we work with companies across Norway remotely.
Answers are general information about Norwegian tax rules, not advice on your specific situation. Rules and thresholds change; confirm the current position before acting.
